Cataract

Cataract- A Common Eye Disorder

It is simply described as the inability of the eyes to see properly due to the cloudiness that befalls on them. Cataract is a result of the protein accumulation in the lens and it usually leads to loss of vision over a period of time.

Cataract as an eye disorder is common in aging men and women. That is to say; those above 58 years, but it can also occur to those aged below

The exact cause of Cataract is unknown, but eye specialists associate the eye condition to;

  • Extreme smoking and alcoholism
  • Illness
  • Prolonged exposure to UV rays
  • Effects of certain medications
  • Previous Eye Injury
  • Diabetes
  • Age
  • Family history
  • Prolonged use of Corticosteroids among others

There are two types of Cataracts, so before treatment, the professional optometrist or Ophthalmologist has to determine the type of Cataract that one suffers from;

Congenital Cataracts- also known as childhood cataracts, it occurs once a baby is born or later as it grows

Age-Related Cataracts- this type occurs during an advanced age in men and women and it is very common

Treating Cataracts

Cataracts can be treated with a Cataract Surgery in India and it is a minimally invasive procedure. There are two forms of surgeries that can be considered i.e.

1. Cataract Lens Replacement
In this procedure, the affected lens is removed and an artificial eye lens is replaced. Normally, Intraocular Lens (IOL) are replaced during the surgery and it can eliminate the need for contact lenses or eyeglasses

2. No-Stitch Cataract Surgery
This new revolutionary technique allows cataract to be removed without anesthesia injections. Using an Ultrasound and suction, a tiny incision is made, intraocular lens implanted and a specialized solution is used to close the wound
